Carried

2021

Exploring the themes of migration, movement, time, change, “Carried” is a meditation on “Asian Americana”.  The video is visual prose compiled of personal archive and familial home videos that echoes the immigrant’s experience of searching for home in the western American landscape—a place that is always shifting and in movement.  Made in the wake of the 2021 Atlanta shootings, “Carried” contemplates on these themes of home and loss while celebrating resilience of family and the courage to hope.

Halmonyeo

2020

A collage of found images, iPhone photos, and family archive, "Halmonyeo" weaves metaphors to contemplate themes of female labor, the aging body, and loss. Simultaneously a recorded slideshow and a video, “Halmonyeo” plays with its medial form, taking cues from academic PowerPoints, family photo albums, and Hollywood voiceovers.  The vocabulary of the video explores questions of traditional western pedagogy, inherited narratives, and hierarchies of dissemination.
